The Dipper Novices' Chase is for five year olds and upwards. It is a Grade 2 National Hunt chase run at Cheltenham racecourse on New Years day.
The Dipper Chase was run at Newcastle racecourse until it was moved to Cheltenham in 2005 when the date for the event was also moved from November to January.

BILLIE MAGERN
Confirmed front runner who put in a fine run of three wins on the trot this summer. A winner of 8 from his 24 starts he is progressive but may just be below his class. Acts on Good/Firm to good and although the course is drying out I think it may be too soft for him.
COIS FARRAIG
Consistent sort this horse and another of many in the race that has shown promise. A point-to-point winner in Ireland and comes here on the back of a good grade 2 novice chase at Newbury. A good horse but this hot contest and i think he could just step up to this. Wins on good/soft and good/yielding
REVE DE SIVOLA
A good well fancied horse who’s jumping sometimes looks suspect. However when he does get it right he has shown some class. Winner of a grade 1 novice hurdle at the festival last season, Since going chasing this season he was a good fourth on his first outing in the Steel Plate And Sections Novices' Chase at this course in December and then ran well to win a novice at this course in December. Well fancied in the market has won on going from good to heavy and therefore the ground should be no excuse.
HELL´S BAY
Nice horse with plenty of runs under his belt. Not a prolific winner but has put up some good place runs most notably 2nd behind Time for Rupert in the Steel Plate And Sections Novices' Chase at this course in November. Looks well exposed and will have plenty to on his plate to win this. Wins have come on good good/soft
MASTER OF THE HALL
A very good horse who perhaps rightly should be near the head of the market. Lots to like about this horse but can occasionally put in a poor performance and has been the beaten favourite on two occasions and on of them at odd on. That said he did win well and could not help but catch the eye winning on his first chase in November. His trainer is another who seems to well at this course. Wins have come on ground ranging from good/soft to heavy certainly not one to leave out of your reconing.
MEDERMIT
A good horse who blotted his book when refusing in the race at long odds two races ago. A French import who like many young French horses he has had plenty of racing. A very smart hurdler who does seem to have taken to chases (who he decides to take part of course). A smart horse that looks certain to make the frame and could be the winner. Wins have come on ground ranging from good/soft to heavy.
HAVE YOU SEEN ME
Reasonable hurdler who looks a little better over fences. Has done nothing wrong in last two starts. He can front run so could make all if the pace is wrong and is on the upgrade and from a trainer that does well at this course and at this time of year but still needs to improve on what he has done so far to win this. Wins have come on ground ranging from good to good/soft
MR THRILLER
A really good hurdler who has been well backed for this race on what looked to be a likely winner when he hit a fence before making another mistake and falling at this course in November. The market support for the horse should not be ignored but there are others here with proven form that looks more appealing. 4 wins have come on soft ground.
OTHERMIX
Smart horse when run in France but has not managed to win since moving to this country. He has however put in some good performances without winning. He has changed stables again this season but the addition of a tongue strap and blinkers can’t do anything to improve the betting prospects for this horse. If they do get to the bottom of him then he could well be better than most in this field. Wins have come on ground either soft or heavy.
RANJOBAIE
A good hurdler who is as yet untried over fences. Changed stables this term from Nicky Henderson to Venetia Williams. Nothing seen yet suggests that he will not take to the larger obstacles and looks way over priced in this market, if still with Henderson he would be much shorter, may well be the real value bet in the race. Wins have come on ground ranging from good to good/soft.
SIMARIAN
7th in the 2009 triumph hurdle and a horse with a lot of class. Completely lost his was last season. Started over fences this season and looks much improved with a second and a win but in races much lower than this class. Open to improvement but it would be nice to have seen him run at least 1 decent class chase. Another who could be well overpriced but this looks like a competitive event. Wins have come on ground ranging from good to heavy.
SANG BLEU
Another French import this time into the powerful Paul Nicholls yard. A good hurdler who was disappointing on his chasing debut at the end of November finishing a poor third and last after making a few mistakes. He will have had good schooling since and will have improvement to come but he is a young horse and this might be too sharp for this point in his career. Wins have come on ground ranging from god/soft to soft.
SWAY
A good French hurdler who again at only 4 years old has had plenty of runs. Has fallen twice over hurdles so that must be a worry but has done well in three chase runs to date winning twice and second once (all low grade). Will obviously improve but looks short enough in the betting in this hot affair and that can’t be overlooked for this stable. Wins have come on ground ranging from good to soft.
