The St.Leger. One of the five classic races in england for the top 3 year olds of the season. Run at a longer distance than the three previous classic races of 1m,1m and 1m4f to win this race a horse needs distance as well as speed in it's armoury.
On it's first running in 1776 and named simply as a sweepstakes the race was open to three year old colts and fillies and was run over two miles however it was re-named the following year after it's founder Anthony St. Leger a politician and army officer

Above Average
A good horse who's only win from 8 starts was in the classic trial at Sandown in April. He has gone off the boil since then and there is nothing to suggest that he should be in the shake up of this competitive event.
Changingoftheguard
Comes here in good form on the back of a second at York in the Ebor. he stayed on that day suggesting that he should get the trip. Two easy wins at Down Royal and Navan suggest he could be up to this form.
Father Time
From the once very powerful yard of Henry Cecil this colt is one with in and out form. Third on last outing at york over 1m4f could suggest that this trip is too far but he was not right that day and his form should be judged on his win at Ascot in the KING EDWARD VII STAKES also over 1m4f where he was finishing strongly. Could well be in the shake up.
Kite Wood
well beaten in the Derby but he did not settle that day and was eased at the finish. Has run really well winning two group three races since over 1m5f+ staying on each time. Obviously in good form and a worthy favorite.
Mastery
Well traveled horse who comes here on the back of an excellent third place in the GREAT VOLTIGEUR STAKES at York. looks the right type for the race and is getting better. Longer trip looks like it might suit and this horse has the guts for a fight but with stable jockey opting for another horse suggests that this might not be his day.
Monitor Closely
A nice horse who looks like one who will certainly enjoy the trip today. That said he looks below this class in what could be a competitive race. Too short a price for this race?
Mourayan
Third in the Irish Derby and second in a group three since shows that the horse has some talent but nothing in form suggests this step up in trip will see him improve.
Von Jawlensky
A pacemaker? Nothing to suggest he will be anything but well beaten at the finish.
